Direct Colorants - How they work

Direct Colours

Semi-Permanent Colour
This Jarocol™ range contains colorants of three main types; HC colours, Basic / Cationic dyes and nitro aminophenols / phenylenediamines.

The HC colours and nitro dyes are typically materials of low molecular weight, which are small enough to infuse into the hair shaft. The basic dyes are much larger molecules and due to their cationic nature, have excellent substantivity for coating the outside of the hair. Both types are capable of giving a colour result lasting anything up to 10 washes. The colour imparted is inadequate to completely cover grey / white hair, but the result is sufficient for them to blend in with surrounding darker hair.

Direct colorants are usually applied without peroxide or ammonia and therefore cannot lighten the hair's natural pigmentation to give a colour result lighter than the original shade. These dyes can be easily used to add colouring functionality to a broad range of product formulations. The limited durability and non-destructive nature of these products make them ideal for consumers who are not ready to commit to continued use of hair colour.
